Spring Creek Affordable Housing: Longmont, CO
We were retained to provide all civil engineering services for this 60-unit affordable senior housing building on 2 acres in northeast Longmont for owner Longmont Housing Development Corporation. A 62-stall parking lot and utility services were included, along with storm water quality facility design. Upon our recommendation, a rain garden was chosen as the Best Management Practice (BMP) of choice for the stormwater quality facility. We worked closely with the landscape architect to incorporate grading and drainage designs to complement the site amenities such as play courts and walking paths for the senior residents, as well as a play area for visiting children and grandchildren. City of Longmont review process included approval through the Development Review Committee for architectural and site design, Public Works for drainage and utility design, and State of Colorado for the Stormwater Management Permit.

We were retained by Bennett Wagner & Grody Architects to provide civil engineering services related to rezoning, site plan and utility district submittals, and to prepare construction documents and specifications for the one acre site.
Site improvements include an approximately 31,000 square foot building with adjacent parking lot, widening of a public street to provide parallel parking and bus drop off, water and sewer services and storm drainage and water quality analysis and design. Construction was completed in the summer of 2005.

Project consisted of 298 miles of 26" crude pipeline. Topographic construction staked and performed an As-Built survey on the line beginning at Plains's McCamey tank farm and terminating at Plain's Gardendale tank farm. As part of the project, Topographic prepared profiles for hydrotest crews, marked trench breakers, calculated volumes for tank berms and surveyed valve site construction locations. Deliverables included As-Built plats, complete BlueSky database and As-Built alignment sheets.

We were retained by the project architect to provide all civil engineering services for a new ECE-8 school and campus for Denver Public Schools (DPS) as part of the Stapleton redevelopment. We prepared design documents for all civil infrastructure, including grading & drainage, sanitary sewer service, parking and access drives, water & fire services, and right-of-way improvements.
Close coordination was required both within the design team and also with the designers of the surrounding neighborhood to obtain all the required Denver site approvals and to provide accurate construction documents. The limited number of site-related RFIs and ASIs during construction were a testament to the success of this coordination effort during the design.
We worked with Denver Development Services to obtain approval of utilities and design right of way (ROW) improvements on a timely basis, due the accelerated design schedule demanded by DPS. The ROW improvements were approved through the Denver Transportation Engineering Plan process, to provide for DPS bus services, site access and walks along the adjacent surrounding roads.
Plans were processed and approved through Denver Water for an onsite water main loop, 8” fire service and water services (both 4” domestic and 4” irrigation meters). Site grading and storm drainage design were approved under the Denver SSPR process to provide inlets and piping which connected into the public storm system in the streets. A private sanitary sewer main extension, required to serve the different wings of the building, was also approved under the Denver SSPR process. Erosion and sedimentation control during the 14-month construction period were approved under both a Denver and State of Colorado Construction Activities Stormwater Discharge Permit.
Construction was completed on schedule, in time for the school to open to students for the Fall 2018 session.

We were retained to provide civil engineering services for a new trail head and buffalo overlook at the historic Patrick House location in Genesee. The approximately 1-acre project was designed in accordance with the Denver Mountain Parks Master Plan guidelines. Site improvements were designed for ADA accessibility throughout, and included a new parking lot and water quality pond, reconfiguration of drives to accommodate buffalo transport, picnic areas, restrooms and a trail extension to the existing buffalo overlook and pasture land. Site permitting was obtained through the Denver Engineering Regulatory and Analytics process.

Preliminary and an As-Built survey of 68.9 miles of a 12” refined product line and two ALTA surveys for Terminals spanning from Hearne, TX to Hutton, TX. This project consisted of several separate tasks including 182 easement exhibits and a complete asbuilt database to Valero standards. Topographic
worked closely with a third party engineering firm to help facility alignment, HDD, and crossing permits. The preliminary portion of this project was
completed in 60 days with 2 crews and the as-built completed in 6 months 5 field crews.

Performed an As-Built survey of 86.9 miles of a 16” crude line, spanning from the Keene Terminal in McKenzie County, North Dakota to the Phillip 66’s rail
terminal, in Mountrail County, North Dakota. This project consisted of a number of separate tasks including 41 pipeline encroachment exhibits, 82 asbuilt easement plats and a complete database and asbuilt alignment sheets to Phillips 66 standards. Topographic also provided constructions drawings, profiles and hydro test calculations for two 11,075’ HDDs for both a 16” crude and gas line under Lake Sacagawea. This project was completed in the span of approximately 120 days with 6 field crews.

Working with the architectural firm of DTJ Design of Boulder, Colorado, we provided all land surveying and civil engineering services for the re-platting, right-of-way vacations, 401 permitting, site plan/architectural review and preparation of construction documents for the 30,000 square foot building on the 1.5-acre site adjacent to the St. Vrain River.
The project required preparation of CDOT Region 4 Access Permits and Construction Drawings for extension of a public road and alley.

We were retained by H+L Architects in to provide civil engineering services for a new three-story Health and Sciences Building on the Aims Community College campus.
Civil engineering design included reconfiguration of existing drives to improve traffic flow, a new parking lot, water and sewer main design, irrigation ditch relocation, site grading and sidewalk connections to the campus pedestrian circulation system.
The same design team also was subsequently retained for the ongoing 8,000 sf Aviation Building project.

Topographic performed a field survey and easement preparation of a proposed pipeline to be constructed, consisting of approximately 183.6 miles (680,000 linear feet) of oil gathering pipeline, one tank terminal site and two truck unloading terminals. The project was located in both Lea County, New Mexico and Loving County, Texas spread out over approximately 350 square miles.
Centerline survey, boundary survey, in both states was performed as well as project base map including land parcels and required information to generate over 200 easement plats in a period of 60 days.

Topographic completed the Diamond Pipeline project for Plains Pipeline, LLC. The project consisted of 448 miles of crude oil transmission pipeline and associated pumping stations originating at Plains Marketing’s Cushing Terminal and terminating at the Valero Refinery in Memphis, Tennessee. Topographic completed 270 miles of routing and centerline surveying. Additionally, we provided preliminary alignment sheets for all 448 miles as well as boundary and easement plat preparation for 1300+ parcels. Centerline and boundary surveying field work was completed in 120 days using 8 crews. Final pipeline design was coordinated with Engineering and Environmental departments.

Working with Bennett Wagner & Grody Architects, we were retained as civil engineers for a new Library Building in the Four Square Mile neighborhood, at the corner of Parker Road (SH-83) and E. Florida Avenue in unincorporated Arapahoe County.
The 16,000 gsf building includes a partial basement and an attached public use Community Room. The development required a full re-plat of the lot as well as approval of the County Location & Extent (L&E) process.
Site improvements to the 3.5 acre infill property included:
- parking lot and sidewalks
- two access drives onto adjacent public streets
- site re-grading
- water main extension
- two new fire hydrants and associated easement processed through the Denver Water Department, were required to meet fire flow requirements.
Extensive drainage design was necessitated to obtain approval for a small trans-basin diversion, thereby avoiding construction of an additional detention pond.
Development was complicated due to the number of jurisdictions having authority of this prominent site. South Parker Road is a state highway, and CDOT criteria required the design and approval of a dedicated right turn lane. E. Florida Avenue, an Arapahoe County street, also required the dedication of additional ROW and design of an additional lane. The newly-formed South East Metro Storm Water Authority (SEMSWA) shares jurisdiction with Arapahoe County for drainage design and stormwater quality approval, under the County Grading and Erosion Control (GESC) Permit process.
Both water and sewer services are provided by Cherry Creek Valley District, as a master distributor for Denver Water Department. We maintained close and effective properties coordination with each of these varied approval entities, coordinating reviews and meeting the requirements of each.

The preliminary field work and submittal of plats for the original planned route was completed in 15 days.

We were retained by the project architect to provide all civil engineering services for a major multi-phase revision to the Denver Public Schools (DPS) campus for Swansea Elementary School. The school is located in the historic Elyria Swansea neighborhood and is being impacted by the CDOT Central 70 Project to widen and underground portions of I-70 through this neighborhood.
Services include preparation of the school site for this impending project, including a major site revision to accommodate school parking and play areas while the Central 70 temporarily impacts nearly one-third of the school property, and the school remains in operation.
We worked closely with Denver Development Services, CDOT and utility providers to vacate Elizabeth Street and existing utilities, and design right of way (ROW) improvements. ROW improvements include new and modified bus lanes along 47th Ave and Columbine Street under the Denver Transportation Engineering Plan process, to enable DPS buses to continue servicing those students. Denver Water plans were prepared for a relocated 3″ water meter and new fire service while maintaining safe operation of the school. Phases 1 & 2, including right of way and public utility improvements have been completed.
Phase 3 was largely a site infrastructure project. Construction occurred during the short 2018 summer break for students. Multiple site subcontractors were coordinated and construction problems were addressed quickly in order to keep the project on its tight schedule. Sufficient facilities were readied for students and the Fall 2018 school term began on time, despite a 2-week delay to mitigate potentially contaminated soils discovered during the construction. During Phase 3 we assumed the primary role of providing construction management as well as close coordination with CDOT and their development partner, KMP, to ensure the construction proceeded smoothly, without delaying the opening of school in August.

All sites received a full boundary survey completed to the client’s specifications per Schedule “B” of the current ALTA standards for the practice of land surveying. This commonly includes but, is not limited to; topographical survey of subject property in one-foot contour intervals, sub-surface utility locates and mapping (Ground Penetrating Radar services are available), identifying existing encumbrances and/or existing structures, FEMA flood survey and cross sections of existing access roads.
Deliverables for preliminary survey work included: Electronic drawing in AutoCAD format, digital terrain model of topography survey from GPS or Total Station collected coordinates, processed point cloud data from Lidar Scan in larger acreages and a 24” x 36” map of subject property showing results of
survey and above mentioned contents of Schedule “B” items.
Staking Process: Established site boundary and working limits. Any areas of no access such as wetlands or protected areas were marked. Lay-down yards and facilities areas were also staked for equipment deliveries. Property fences and SWPPP fences were staked in 150’ intervals and at terminal post locations. Property access roads and array field access roads were staked on centerline in 150’ intervals or as needed to illustrate any applicable curves. (As-built surveys were completed upon request)
Grading Plan: Cut and fill staking completed using RTK GPS equipment calibrated to local control points from OPUS solutions. Level loops were used in areas requiring vertical tolerances of less than 0.10 feet accuracy. Array Fields: Array foundation posts were marked with 60D nail and whisker. Points
were collected with GPS as staked and provided to client in electronic format for verification of placement.

Pipeline routing, acquisition documents, county permitting documents, as-built surveys and construction support for 200 miles of oil, gas, produced water, and fresh-water pipelines in the heart of Weld County, Colorado. In addition to the pipeline work, Topographic performed the survey and layout work for two major terminal locations in Platteville and Lucerne, Colorado. Deliverables included 200+ pipeline exhibits, a complete database and as-built alignment sheets to SBPL standards. Topographic also provided 100+ construction alignment sheets and HDD plan and profiles for 150+ crossing locations.

Topographic provided survey and engineering design service for the permitting and construction of a 500k recycle water pond and a 250k freshwater pond along with an equipment pad. Treated frac water was stored in the larger pond and pumped to wells for fracing. The freshwater pond was used to ensure water was available in situations where there wasn’t enough water coming to the site for treatment and reuse. Deliverables consisted of cut/fill calculations, topsoil stockpile, total grading and a detailed layout for the liner, trench anchors, suction pipes and funnels, pond fill apparatus and leak detection systems. Additionally, Topographic provided details for gates, fences, berms and any other features needed for facility completion.

The project was done is 3 phases including 3 Final subdivision plats and several access and utility easements. Topographic coordinated with a third - party engineering firm to complete the environmental engineering study required by the county and Wyoming DEQ.

Topographic performed an As-Built survey on 90 miles of 20" crude pipeline beginning at the Navigator Calumet CDP and terminating at Tallgrass’ Cushing tank farm. As part of the project, Topographic prepared profiles for hydrotest crews, marked trench breakers, HDD locations, surveyed valve site construction locations and reviewed and read engineering plans to stakes pier locations for LACT units and pumps. Deliverables included As-Built plats, a complete pipe information database and as-built alignment sheets.

Preliminary surveying services for the design of a 30” crude pipeline across 200 miles utilizing a 50’ - wide easement for acquisition. The project was divided among 2 spreads with spread 1 beginning at the Plains terminal in Cushing, Oklahoma, and stretching across the 4 counties of Lincoln, Pottawatomie, Cleveland, and McClain to the beginning of spread 2. Spread 2 continued across 3 additional counties in Oklahoma including Garvin, Stephens, and Jefferson, crossing Clay county and ending in Wichita. Deliverables included riverbed (sonar, orthometric) survey profiling across the Red River, Washita River and North Canadian River, booster station surveys, mainline block valves, construction alignment sheets, easement plats across 692 tracts and county road and state highway permits.

We teamed with project architect DLR Group, to provide all civil engineering services for the 40 acre, 750 bed expansion to the original 950 bed facility, on which we also performed civil engineering design.
Civil engineering design services included new 10 inch potable water main extension and separate 12” fire protection main extension. Sanitary sewer design included a new pre-treatment facility incorporating grinder facilities for both the new and existing buildings and a new sanitary sewer lift station. Separate fire access and patrol roads were designed internal to the perimeter fences.
Original design included new public water main extension which crossed Interstate Highway 70, design of an elevated water tank providing both fire and domestic water service to the facility, 2,800 linear feet of private sanitary sewer, a private sanitary sewer lift station, and public sanitary sewer extension with 2,550 linear feet of 8” force main and 900 linear feet of 18” gravity flow sewer main.
Drainage calculations and preparation of a storm water management plan were also included. We also provided periodic construction observation services for the project. Construction was completed in 2008.
